Good! You've arrived!
Now we can begin.
The online art director portfolio of Garth Wilson, an experienced designer with 20 years of making clients smile. During that time I've taken on 1,700 projects, which works out to almost 2 a week... every week. That's a lot of grins!
Over the years my portfolio has become a mess of printed pieces, slides, tear-sheets... you name it. So a year ago [November 2007] I decided to create an active, online portfolio, where I upload new work on a regular basis. The portfolio is in a blog format, so it's easy to update. No fuss, nor muss. As the designs come out of the oven, all hot and crispy, I serve them up in my online window display. I try to add a new post at least once a week. So far there over 40 delicious sticks of eye candy for visitors to peruse. On the rare occasion work slows down a bit, I dig around and pull out an old recipe that I feel still holds up today, and I stick that alongside the others.
Mmm. Smells great. What's cooking?
My philosophy about GOOD design/art direction is to allow the piece to be what it wants to be. Don't force your style upon a project. Some assignments arrive on my desk a little directionless and those I can have fun with. Otherwise, I let the piece 'breathe' and adapt my style to fit what the project requires.Lastly... I leave my ego at the door.
That's it. Pretty simple really.
As any art director worth his salt, I believe the picture is far more powerful than words. So please click on the many visual cues scattered around to enter... THE PORTFOLIO.
